The Fine Arts Salon and SpeleoArt Workshop. The Theme will be Calcite,Silicates and Mineralogy in Speleology.

This year the Collaborative will embrace the Topographic theme of this year’s Fine Arts Salon and morph into the 2013 theme of cave formations. This will introduce a another unique view for the development of creativity within speleology.

2012 Convention SpeleoArt Workshop will have a two day course for anyone interested in learning more about introducing creative talent within the caving trip. From the product of a speleological experience to a backdrop for educating others in the special relationships that develop from the challenges of cave exploration, this will become a collaboration to create a single artwork that celebrates the mission to understand science through art.

Class 1: STRENGTH ORIENTATION Tuesday morning
There will be preparation for a cave sketch trip followed by a visit to a local cave for Plein Aire sketching.

Class 2: GAINS IN LEARNING Tuesday afternoon
Visiting a cave, and working underground.
The next class will be the caving trip. There will be a tour of the areas to be worked, and general exploration of the cave permitted. Here, individual groups can discuss their plans and decide on either staying within one particular area to work, or visiting to quick-sketch in several spots.

Class 3: REFLECTION AND SPECULATION Wednesday morning class and afternoon free
Planning a theme and collaboration for one final artwork from workgroups.
This is the class where the LARGE BLANK CANVAS will be presented for participants to plan how the ideas they have brought from the caving trip will be laid out.

Class 4: EVALUATION Thursday morning class and afternoon free,
 Collaborative Artwork.
Participants will collaboratively work on the single piece by communicating with each other as individuals and planning groups. At the end of this session, each small group will have established a group leader who will be responsible for preparing the final canvas for the following years’ Fine Arts Salon Exhibition.
The group leaders will collaborate with the Coordinator for presentation.
